How will they know…?

We had a great breakfast gathering this weekend! And oh, the lies we believe about children! Not only are children a treasure and a blessing, but God never intended for our children to learn the hard way what we as parents should have trained them in from the beginning. Let’s face it… there are just some things we need to learn from experience in order to gain wisdom and appreciate God’s grace and mercy. However, if we as parents don’t teach our kids NOW how to cultivate their own intimate relationship with God… what it really means to love righteousness… if we don’t model a fervent prayer life and passionate love for Truth – then we really shouldn’t be surprised when our kids don’t make good decisions, should we?From God’s perspective, we have been called to train our children in the way they should go, that they would not depart from God. They may be our kids, but God has given us the charge to raise them as His children, and they need to see what unconditional love looks like… what it means for the just to really walk by faith and to persevere when our emotions and everything else in the world tells us it’s impossible, or that it’s okay to compromise. How will they know unless we show them… unless we teach them and walk with them? At some point, our kids will grow up and take their steps out into the world – whether we think they’re ready or not. God expects us to raise up children who know that they know that God is for them, and that He is with them. We only have so much time with our kids. Every moment counts, parents! Our kids can not walk out our faith, but we can certainly invest our lives into them NOW while we have the chance to lay the foundations of a faith in God that is completely unshakable! How will you respond?
